walking in two worlds

Just before the sun rises, there is a star standing alone, shining brightly in the east.  The Morning Star announces the coming of sun and light to the earth and reminds us to honor the great gift given to us - a new day of life.  Standing between light and darkness, the Morning Star inspires understanding and life.

The 8-point star symbol traditionally adorned hides and teepees using natural plant dyes and was interwoven within porcupine quill work and beaded patterns used on moccasins and clothing.  In the mid-to-late 1800s, fabric was introduced and the "Star Blanket Quilt" as we know it today was born.

It is as much an honor to give a Star Blanket as it is to receive one.  Legends, stories and meaningful events are honored by the quilt pattern and colors.

Each Star Blanket has its own personality, spirit and story and is given to show honor, protection and celebration.
